Nic Roth is an author and illustrator who creates vibrant picture books, graphic novels, comics, and magazine illustrations. He’s also known for his whimsical murals scattered throughout Des Moines, most recently at Basic Bird in Beaverdale and The Little Book in Highland Park.
Nic is known for his character-driven illustrations and eye-catching color palettes. His art is filled with hidden details, inviting viewers to explore and discover new things. Humor and sweetness are recurring themes in his work, and his collaborative spirit helps bring his imaginative worlds to life.
Growing up, he was inspired by Dr. Seuss, Calvin & Hobbes, Richard Scarry, The Far Side, Garfield, Animorphs and Goosebumps books. Nic earned his BFA in illustration while attending the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
His work has been published 50+ times in national children’s magazines MUSE, A.S.K., and FACES. Author of the hit web comic, BEET AND PANDA, you can read the episodes for free on WebToons. Recently, Nic has enjoyed a foray into mural design and install. Nic brings his unique, joyful art style to Basic Bird, the iconic new Korean Fried Chicken restaurant in Des Moines.
